We have a 9 year old retired greyhound who has less than half

Customer Question

We have a 9 year old retired greyhound who has less than half his teeth as he had to have them removed just before we "homed" him. Therefore, he can't cope with Dentastiks etc. Last year he had an infection and had to have another tooth removed. I am brushing his remaining teeth every day with Pet Dent Toothpaste and rubbing the Pet Dent gel round his gums. I notice that he has some tartar forming on a couple of his teeth. I was looking at "Logic" toothpaste online and wondered if this would be better as it is difficult to brush his teeth properly as he has so many gaps and apparently the Logic can just be rubbed on.
Thank you
Phyllis

ERvetguy :

Hello, I'm Dr. Ryan and I would be more than happy to help

ERvetguy :

I have a couple clients who have used the Logic tooth paste gel, they seem to like it much better than the other brands out there

ERvetguy :

Petzlife gel is effective but most dogs hate the taste

Customer:

Helo Dr. Ryan,

ERvetguy :

Tropiclean gel is effective but its too runny, not liked by most dogs too

ERvetguy :

VET paste is liked by dogs but is too thick and a lot have difficulty using it

ERvetguy :

Don't bother with any generic super market pet tooth pastes

ERvetguy :

The logic gel is palatable, some dogs almost seem to like it as a treat

ERvetguy :

Tropiclean is probably the cheapest

Customer:

Hello, Dr. Ryan, Our Greyhound Ben doesn't like the taste of Pet Dent either and as he has so few teeth now I am wondering if any toothpaste will keep him tartar free.

ERvetguy :

I would rub on the good teeth and brush with it on the affected teeth

ERvetguy :

The logic may be defective itself

ERvetguy :

Some are more affective than others, problem is typically the taste

ERvetguy :

Either dogs like it but ineffective or dogs hate it but effective

ERvetguy :

The Logic gel seems to be the most effective in my experience and taste isn't that bd to most dogs

ERvetguy :

You could use the Logic gel with a tiny daily dose of PlaqueOff and regular RMB's

ERvetguy :

RMB's by the way are raw meaty bones

Customer:

Thank you, XXXXX XXXXX try the Logic this time and if he likes the taste then maybe he will not try to back away or hide in his bed when he sees the toothbrush and toothpaste.

Customer:

Do you think that he would cope with a RMB?

ERvetguy :

Yes, I would initially try to just rub on first

ERvetguy :

He may, the key is try small stuff first

ERvetguy :

I would rub on the logic, then try brushing lightly after a couple days

Customer:

Thank you for your help.

ERvetguy :

You can try RMB's every now and then thereafter if still not as effective

ERvetguy :

No problem glad to help
