Customer Question

I gave my boxer dog an onsior tablet tonight (10:30pm) as she is taking them daily for arthritis. My partner then told me that he gave her one this morning (at 9am) I am worried as they say one a day.

Dosing for dogs is variable at 1-2 mg/kg once daily and so you may have given the proper daily dose divided into two equal doses rather than once daily. It would be very unlikely that you harmed your boxer if only because chronic toxicity studies in dogs with doses up to 10 mg/kg/day for 6 months didn't produce any signs of toxicity. Please respond with further questions or concerns if you wish.

80 mg/27 kg = ~3 mg/lb - considerably under the 10 mg/kg/day administered in studies. She might experience transient vomiting and/or diarrhea - the most common of the adverse effects - but there's no reason to believe that she was intoxicated. I wouldn't induce emesis or treat in any manner. Please continue our conversation if you wish.
