5mg not sure how many could have been 8 he weighs about 27kg
Expert:  Dr. Michael Salkin replied 1 year ago.
Thank you! 40 mg/27 kg = 1.5 mg/kg That's not much of an overdose when given to cats. It's not a drug used in dogs but a one-time inadvertent ingestion of this drug at that dose isn't expected to cause clinical signs. As with any drug, transient gastrointestinal distress - inappetence, vomiting and/or diarrhea - can arise but toxicity isn't expected. The half-life in dogs is only 8-9 hours and it usually takes 1-3 weeks for this drug to reduce the serum T4 (total thyroid) level. I wouldn't induce emesis or treat in any manner. Please respond with further questions or concerns if you wish.
