Hello, I'm Dr. Kara. I have over 20 years of experience as a veterinarian and I'd like to help. Please give me a moment to review your concerns.
I am sorry to hear that your pregnant pup has fleas. Of course this is something you want to address before she gives birth.
Is the product that you have (Flea Away) a naturopathic pill containing:
Active Ingredients per 1.6g chewable tabletProprietary blend of (Brewer's Yeast, Calcium Carbonate, Cyanocobalamin, Folic Acid, Niacin, Pyridoxine HCl, Thiamine HCl, dl-alpha-tocopheryl acetate) ..................................... 512 mg
Inactive ingredientsBeef Liver, Gelatin, Gelatin Hydrolysate Beef, Magnesium Stearate, Microcrystalline Cellulose, Silica, Stearic Acid
Thanks. Can you give the the active ingredients listed on the label?
Very good, that particular ingredient is quite safe.
It affects insect nervous systems, as they have different chemicals in their body that work to control their nerve firings that mammals don't have, and thus this does not affect mammals. It is one of the few treatments we can use in pregnant and nursing dogs safely because of that. Ideally apply it now and it will be well distributed and the fleas gone before the pups are born.
Things we would want to stay away from would be products with pyrethrins.
Please let me know if you have any further questions.
You are very welcome, my best to your girl. I hope she has an easy delivery and you have happy, healthy pups soon.
