Customer Question

My dog keeps on lying down on walks. I've checked all his paws and they seem fine and he doesn't seem to be limping or in any obvious pain...but this has never happened before. I have just returned from a short walk around the block and he lay down about 5 times! I know it's hard to tell what could be wrong with him from this sole symptom but is there anything I can check/look out for? Many thanks, Beth

I'm sorry that your question wasn't answered in a timely manner. Please let me know if you still need help. May I have an update on Maverick, please?

To answer you directly, you can look for signs of cardiopulmonary disease such as an increased respiratory rate - greater than 30 breaths per minute at rest or while asleep would be worrisome, and cyanosis (blue/grey mucous membranes, gums, tongue) indicating a lack of oxygen to the tissues which might be more likely seen after he lies down while walking. I would have him thoroughly examined by his vet who is likely to carefully auscultate (listen to) and X-ray Maverick's heart and lungs and recommend having a diagnostic panel of blood and urine tests performed. Please respond with further questions or concerns if you wish.
