Ixus 510 HS
Problem making wireless connection to a computer.

I have windows 7 home premium with service pack 1.

On attempting to connect my camera to this network, I
1. Choose the computer icon
2. select 'add a device'
3. the camera finds my network, I select this
4. enter my encryption key and click on next and auto
5. my laptop is found.
6. I select it

but here I always get a connection failure, and I cannot see the next step to take.

is there an obvious way out of this recurring error

Hi there and welcome

Can you disconnect the power from the wifi router and wait 5 minutes.

While waiting, turn off the camera.

Connect the power to the wifi router, and then turn on the camera.

Connect to the wifi again and tell me if you can then transfer please.

Thank you

Followed the advice, but no success.

the process of connecting (done on the camera) recognises my network, and then, using an auto method for wpa devices, asks for an encryption key. I suppose I am putting the correct key (it is 6 letters) and the device then recognises the name of my computer. On trying to connect with that device, I get the connection failure.

WPA is not an automatic methods (thats WPS)

Where are you getting the Key from that you enter?

Customer: replied 4 years ago.

From control panel

network and sharing centre

manage wireless networks

click on the network logo then

use the quoted network security key

ok, this is correct.

Can you disable the Windows firewall please Graham and then try to connect.

To disable it, follow these instructions please

Click Start and in the Search for Programs and Files box type Firewall and press enter.

In the found programs click Windows Firewall.

Click Change settings or Turn Windows Firewall on or off in the left column.

In the Firewall Settings window, select Off and click ok.

then try to connect the camera and let me know the results please

Thank you

No response.

My firewall is managed by Norton, so I turned off the firewall and virus check via their software. However, I still get the communication error note on the camera. I'm not sure what else can be done.

The camera seems to acknowledge my network and my PC, but stubbornly refuses to communicate.

I have, in the past, successfully set my printer up in the system, which seems to suggest some peculiarity with the camera.

It does.

But we can confirm this.

do you have another computer to connect the camera to Graham?

Customer: replied 4 years ago.

It will take some time for me to do this.

I can borrow someone elses computer. I cant do this right now, but its obviously the route for me to take. So I'll have to sign off for now.

Expert:  Richard replied 4 years ago.
ok Graham, but I have marked this question to not close.

So if you do get it working on the other computer, and we know it is not a fault of the device, let me know please and we can take it from there.

Thank you
