Customer Question

I have JVC GZ-HD5 camcorder for 5 years. But used only for my wedding and few other events. Recently I tried to shoot some videos, bet camcorder didn't powered up. I have 3 different fully charged batteries, no success. Tried to get power from AC wall charger straight into camcorder, still nothing. Lens cover stays open all the time. Probably since last time battery died and it didn't have power to shut it.

Hi. My name isXXXXX’m a camera repair technician with over 20 years in the business and I'll be glad to help you with your question today.

This is usually a blown fuse in the cameras power circuit.

The camera contains hundreds of capacitors on the circuit boards that act like a battery to retain an electrical charge. When a camera sits unused for a period of time, these capacitors will loose their charge. When the battery is re-attached to the camera they all try to charge at once, creating a current surge that will blow the fuses in the power circuit. These are very tiny components soldered in place and it will require disassembling the camera to troubleshoot and repair and, unless you are an experienced camera repairman, will require servicing by a qualified technician. Below is a link to a directory of repair shops, one of which should be in your area and able to help you.

Before I contact any of those repairs shops could you tell me how much it will cost me do the repairs? Aproximately.

Repair costs vary from shop to shop and are usually most expensive when done by the factory. It's up to the individual shop to set the price but you can probably expect to pay 75-100 pounds.
