OK - but I hope not!

I wonder if I did something wrong when I fitted the new electronic view finder

.
Actually that could have done it, did you reconnect the lens/zoom unit ribbon cable properly?
.
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

There is no cable - the unit slides onto the hot shoe once the cover is removed

Expert:  Freddy M. replied 3 years ago.
.
There is a ribbon cable attached to the lens and zoom unit which connects to the board inside the camera. Here is a picture of a zoom unit the small orange piece is a ribbon cable and can get knocked loose if the viewfinder lcd is not replaced properly:

To check if this happened just remove the lcd again the same way you did before and if it was knocked loose you should be able to see it. Let me know what you find when you can, hopefully this is all it was.

Low batteries can cause this error, can I ask you please to put in new batteries and tell me if you still get this error.

Let me know the results please
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

I only have one battery so I will now charge it - this will take some time so I'll reply later

Expert:  Richard replied 3 years ago.
ok, thank you
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

I have given the battery a charge - but it makes no difference

Expert:  Richard replied 3 years ago.
Thanks

Place the camera flat on its back on a table, pointed at the ceiling.

Press and hold the shutter button down, and at the same time press the power-on button. The goal is that the camera will try to autofocus while the lens is extending, hopefully seating the lens barrel guide pins in their slots and allowing the Zoom to work.

Let me know the results please

Customer: replied 3 years ago.

Does not work I'afarid - the lens starts to extend but then retracts and starts again - same thing

Expert:  Richard replied 3 years ago.
Thanks

Can you repeatedly tap the camera onto some soft padding with the intent of dislodging any particles that may be jamming the lens.

Do not hit it too hard, but just enough to dislodge anything jammed that can cause this.

Let me know the results please

Customer: replied 3 years ago.

Not working but I think you are right to suggest that this is a mechanical problem. There is a very good camera shop in the town where I live and I will take the camera in and they may be able to open up the lens - obviously I don't want to damage anything

So thanks for your help - if you can't think of anything else I can do here I will close this request and rate you satisfactorily for (I think) being on the right lines

Yours,

XXXXX XXXXX

Expert:  Richard replied 3 years ago.
It will then be a mechanical problem, as the next steps involve dissembling it, but this would void the warranty...

If you would like any additional information or assistance, please do not hesitate to let me know.

And if you can take a second to rate my service, that would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you
