Hi,

This is a very common problem in the type of camera that you have.

In most cases it happens due to dust build up in the cavity over a period of time or due to failure of the mechanism that opens/ shuts that cover. In your case it is possible that sand particles have stuck insude the shutter mechanism.

Hence, the first thing you should try is to get a compressed air can .... and blow air in the cavity of the cover to try to loosen it up ... and hopefully it will solve your problem.

If cleaning doesnt solve the problem, it would be a mechanical failure in the lens cover unit and it will have to be repaired / replaced.

As the camera is less than a year old, it should still be in warranty and as no external damage is evident, you can tell Panasonic that suddenly the shutter is not working fine and you need to get the camera repairer / replaced under warranty. Don't tell them anything about the drop on the beach.
