Hi. My name is*****’m a camera repair technician with over 20 years in the business and I'll be glad to help you with your question today, but I'm going to need a little more information first.

Can you clarify what you mean by "Assign" the focus ring?

It is Nikon jargon for activate. I want in manual setting to rotate the focussing ring to suit me. At the moment have two red indicators on the ring and these appear to be f5.6. an can not be changed

Hi,

Set your mode dial to A (aperture priority). This will allow you to change the lens opening (F4, F5.6 ...etc.) using the Command dial on the camera. Then place the A / M switch on the front of the camera in the M position. This will allow you to turn the Focus ring.
