my brothers camera. i said i would look at it . 2 or 3 years old. it might have had a knock, he said not. sorry not much help.

Hi

This is a very common problem in all digital camera of the type that you have.

Either the motor and gear assembly that takes care of movement of the lens has got damaged or mis-aligned or some sensor has failed or there is dust jammed in lens cavity. This is a mechanical problem and not a camera firmware/software issue.

The only way to make it work is to get it repaired/replaced by a Olympus service center.

If its not in warranty than try this but it can cause more damage so consider that as a risk :
1. Hit the back of camera softly with your palm about 10 times and see it works out. If there is dust plugged in, it will come out that way.
2. You can also use compressed air can to blow the lens cavity area.
3. Remove all SD cards from the camera and put brand new fully charged battery and then turn it on.
