Hello, and thanks for your question. My name is Nick. I will be assisting you with this issue.

We can try to reset the Camera settings back to Factory settings.

Go to Menu->Setup->Reset all. Confirm to reset. Make sure there are no photos on internal memory.

when done, test and let me know how that worked out. Thank you!

If that all it took I would not have asked the question, I had already done reset all and it made no difference. did it again ang it made no difference again.

Thanks Stephen.

Please try to turn off and remove battery from your camera for 30 minutes. Put battery back and turn on. Do the other settings come back?

Nick

Before I asked the question I did all the basics including removing the battery etc. I will try one again

Please do Stephen. We are trying to reset the camera. Leaving the battery out for long will reset it.

No change. The camera still works and a number of the menu functions can be performed using the control nobs and they work as well. So it seems like it is a fault with the way the software is being displayed. Is t here any way to wipe and then reinstall the software.

Expert:  Nick H. replied 3 years ago.
Stephen,

Thanks for your update. Click here to go to the firmware page for your camera. Download the file and connect your camera. Follow the steps to update the camera firmware. Test the Menu and options again.

I have done this once so camera software is already upgraded. I don't think it let's you upgrade again but will try.

Expert:  Nick H. replied 3 years ago.
Please try again.
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

Have done so and it did not work because when I go to firmware the camera does not see the upgrade file because it is already upgraded so gives no option to upgrade

Expert:  Nick H. replied 3 years ago.
Thanks Stephen.

Thanks I am hoping you come up with some ideas because if I take it back to Nikon they will charge a high repair fee but it may be the only option.

Stephen,

I see that no other expert has replied. At this point, you might want to bring your camera to a local camera repair shop. They can check and fix this issue. Usually it would be less expensive than sending to Nikon.
