Hello my name is***** look forward to assisting and am very sorry to hear that you are having this problem.
This camera uses what is called a FireWire cable. Any local computer shop should carry them.
Here is one as well: Click Here If you have any questions at all click on reply to expert and let me know.
If not please don’t forget to leave a positive rating so I am paid for my time and for my help - it is greatly appreciated.
Please note you are rating me only not this site or your Sony.

Hi Freddy,

I purchased the cable you suggested, plugged in the camera to my iMac and when pressing 'Import" the computer says so data from camera. I cannot therefore use iMovie 11. My Camera is a Sony DVR-TRV17E Pal. Do you think that iMovie has ceased to support this camera? If so what can I do now to Edit all of my tapes?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Cheers

On the Sony Camera go through the menu, there is a category called ETC in that it should show the word "i Link" set it to that. If you have any questions at all click on reply to expert and let me know. If not please don’t forget to leave a positive rating so I am paid for my time and for my help - it is greatly appreciated. Please note you are rating me only not this site or your Sony.

Unfortuately I do not have a Sony here to test on but I believe it would be the Data option. Somewhere in the menu will be the iLink option which is what you need to set it to for iMovie to be able to see it.

Sorry Freddy, No iLink anywhere!

iLink should be there somewhere it is used on all Sony models, also the camera should be in play mode when connected. If for some reason you still do not see iLink try to set it to Mass Storage or USB Mode. Then use the steps here for iMovie: Click Here
