My nikon d810 in shutter and manual mode won't go above 1/250

My nikon d810 in shutter and manual mode won't go above 1/250 and shows an X so probably something to do with flash but I can't figure it out. Any ideas

Hi. My name is*****’m a camera repair technician with over 20 years in the business and I'll be glad to help you with your question today.

1/125 is the cameras flash sync speed and the "X" just means it is set to the flash sync speed. The camera will not go above 1/125 until you change the flash sync setting. Are you using the onboard flash?
