The R EMG. Message is an indication of a mechanical problem in the tape pick up or drive of the camera. It's usually a broken guide or cog in the tape path keeping the tape from being fed.

Roger :

The first thing to do is remove the tape from the camera, then power it off and remove the battery. Leave the battery out of the camera for a few minutes, then re-install the battery. Once you have it re-installed, power on the camera and re-install the tape. Once the tape door is closed, try pressing gently on the hinge corners of the tape door first, then on the corners opposite the hinge.

Roger :

Once you've done this try first to fast forward the tape, then rewind the tape to see if these functions are working correctly. If you have a tape with recordings on it, also try playing back a previously recorded tape to see if it plays properly

Roger :

Once you've done all these, then try again to put the camera in the record mode and see if it will record. If you still get the same error, then there's not much more that can be done without opening the camera case to inspect the tape drive mechanics to see that they are all in good working order. There's very few repair shops that still repair these kinds of recorders, and they are extremely complex and sensitive to alignment. If you do want to try and have it repaired, I might be able to help find you a shop that works on these recorders. Just let me know where in the UK you are located and I'll see what I can do to find one near you.

Samsung no longer works on these camcorders from a factory stand point. It will most likely not be cost effective to repair this camera as the cost of labor and hard to find parts will almost surely be more than the value of the camera. I normally use a 50% method when making these decisions with almost any consumer electronics. If the cost of the repairs is more than 50% of the value of the camera, then it's not cost effective to repair and should be replaced.
