Customer Question

I have a Sony NEX 6 . There is a small annoying blob on the image sensor. I do not want to rub it!! Is there somewhere I can take it to today to have the blob removed. Or can you please advise where I can get the correct "solution" and brush?

Roger :

Hi there. My name is ***** ***** it would be my pleasure to help with your issue.

Roger :

Almost any camera shop can do a professional sensor cleaning on your camera, but there may be a way that you can get it without having to do that. Do you know if there is a mirror lock up setting on your camera?

Roger :

Duh, sorry, that was a dumb question since it's mirrorless.

JACUSTOMER-5cmp2d28- :

Correct, it is mirrorless

Roger :

You may try giving it a short burst of canned air and see if you can dislodge whatever is on the sensor. That would be the first thing to try.

JACUSTOMER-5cmp2d28- :

The reading that I have done say that canned air is not the way to go?

Roger :

The reasoning behind that is because of the moisture that it creates. There are bulb tube air blowers made for just that purpose, but they are pretty much useless. You won't hurt anything using canned air as long as you use a short burst from it.

I am in the UK . Am going to New Orleans on Monday . Is there a shop that I could try.

Expert:  Roger replied 2 years ago.
Robert. I just happen to be in South LA myself right now. If you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself, you should be able to get it done while you wait. Bennett's in Metarie, LA would be the place you'd want to try. If they can't do it for you right away they can point you in the right direction and they're really nice people.
Here's their website.

Once you have it cleaned, here's how to check and make sure that whoever cleans it for you did a good job.
Put the camera in aperture priority mode (AV), and set the aperture to the highest number possible (F11/F22). Then take an image of either the sky or a completely white background. If there's any bits left on the camera, you'll definitely be able to see them and get it taken care of right away before you leave.
Here's some more good info for you on sensor cleaning as well.

Hope this helps. Let me know if there's anything else that I can do to assist you. Please don't forget to click accept and leave a positive rating for me. Thanks and have a wonderful day!!!

I think that we are on the same page. I have already identified the "shop" and have emailed them earlier today. I picked on the same links .

Thank you.

I will try the shop as I am concerned not to damage the sensor.

No problem at all. I have used them for repairs that I couldn't handle myself before, and I've also bought lenses from them. Extremely nice and knowledgeable people. If you can get them to, see if they'll let you watch them do the cleaning. That's the best way to learn how to do it properly is to watch someone else do it. A youtube video is good, but it's not like being there. Hope it all works out well for you and enjoy the city. Safe travels and have a wonderful day!!!
