Dear sir I have an FZ 28 camera which I am loaning to my grand daughter ,it seems to have developed some faults when on the IA mode the screen shows the P portrait function then when it is put onto the P function the IA appears on the screen ,It will zoom out but does not zoom back readily ,I was wondering if there is a factory reset functioin I could apply to try and resolve the situation. Yes, to do this go to the Setup Menu, Then Reset and you can perform the reset there.
You will see this also in Page 27 of the manual which you can download from my link below

This will reset the settings and should get it back to working.

Dear Ritchie

Sorry for the delay in answering I was away on business when you replied to my request and I still cannot get into the menu page to initiate the reset button I am not computer or camcorder efficient so find certain things difficult to fathom out so unless someone talks me through things I do not seem to be abnle to sort them out, what you have said seems logical but it is the steps to go through to get to the menu part to do the reset , I hope you understand what I mean.

I may have sorted the reset out but the camera lens is reluctant to zoom back in after taking the pictue it will zoom out but you have to knock the camera off for the lens to return to normal.

Thanks Ray, it confirms the problem.
Its the drive motor thats failing. It explains the problems you have been having. It is going to fail completely though its really hard to say when as it can continue like this for a while.
If its under warranty, I would have it replaced as soon as possible, but if this has expired, the repair is not worth the cost of a replacement for the camera so I would continue to use it this way until it completely fails.
I am really sorry about this, and if you would like any additional information or assistance, please do not hesitate to let me know.
