I have a LUMIX FZ72 camera which when it is switched on makes

I have a LUMIX FZ72 camera which when it is switched on makes a noise as though a motor is running. This is fairly quiet until the zoom is operated when it becomes very noticeable and very irritating. The more noticeable noise continues for as long as the camera is in zoom mode. Is this normal ?
