Hello my name is***** do not rate until we are finished. I look forward to assisting and am very sorry to hear that you are having this problem. I want to warn you that it is possible you will need to replace a part in order to fix this. There are a few different things that can cause this and a couple different parts so we would need to troubleshoot to find out for sure. What model is this?

Sometimes the lens stays extended, other times it closes.

Please blow around the lens canned air duster or a compressor on the lowest setting. Then turning it off and on a few times. Let me know if anything changes.

That is not a good sign, how old is the camera? Did you get an extended warranty?

Camera is two and a half years old, no I did not get an extended warranty.

From what you are describing the lens assembly needs to be replaced if it was under a year old or you had an extended warranty this would normally be covered. Before that you can try cleaning it using this video: Click Here If the same thing happens unfortunately the lens assembly would have to be replaced.
