Hello my name is***** do not rate until we are finished. I look forward to assisting and am very sorry to hear that you are having this problem. I want to warn you that it is possible you will need to replace a part in order to fix this. If you need a part you are still required to pay. There are a few different things that can cause this and a couple different parts so we would need to troubleshoot to find out for sure. Look at the lens straight on and let me know if it is centered.

The lens is centered
Expert:  Freddy M. replied 1 year ago.
That could mean you need a new part then, just in case lets check anyway.
While holding the power button gently push the lens to the side.
Test this with each of the 4 sides, if it is off center to one side doing this should get it to retract while holding the power button.
If you hear a click while doing it do not worry that is normal.
If this did not work please come back and let me know by clicking on reply to expert so we can continue.
If it did work please don’t forget to leave a positive rating it is greatly appreciated.

It tries but no joy

Do you happen to have any canned air duster?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
No

The camera shows zoom error
Expert:  Freddy M. replied 1 year ago.
The zoom unit is what allows the lens to extend and retract. If you had any canned air duster the next step would be to blow out around the lens. Dust stuck around there can cause this issue as well.

OK. Is there another method I can try. I live in the Falkland Islands and there are no camera repairs available here.
Expert:  Freddy M. replied 1 year ago.
Most convenience stores and electronics/computer shops carry canned air. After that if the same thing happens it means the zoom unit has failed and needs to be replaced. On your model it is integrated onto the lens assembly so to replace it you need to replace the entire lens. This can be expensive so you may want to call around for a price. Sometimes it is unfortunately cheaper to replace it instead. If you have any questions at all reply and let me know. I think dirt may be the problem. It is my wife's camera and as she is a gardener she carries it in her pocket most of the time. Thank you for your advice. bill

If it was dropped that can damage the lens and cause this. Unfortunately as I mentioned to fix it the lens would need to be replaced. If you have any questions at all reply and let me know. If not please don’t forget to leave a positive rating by clicking the stars/smileys for my help - it is greatly appreciated. Please note you are rating me only not this site or your Finepix.
