I had to upgrade early due to my screen smashing and having no display on phone. I was looking to transfer all my contacts to new phone as my contacts were stored to phone and not sim. I was told to download Samsung kies and transfer them this way. I have done this but not hit a problem as when I connect my old phone Kies is saying I need to unlock phone first.... I have no display so this is not possible. Is there any way round about this?

Hello Rhona, and thanks for your question. My name is XXXXX XXXXX I will help you today.

What model is your Samsung phone?

And did you download and install Kies on your computer?

Did your phone have code to unlock it?

Customer: replied 3 years ago.

Evening Nick and thank you. My old phone the one that the contacts were on and the one that was damaged was the Samsung Galaxy S3. The new one I purchased was the S4.

Yeh I installed Kies then it told me to update which I did. When I connected my old device it then said it was locked but I am unable to unlock it due to the damage. (Yes I had a code to unlock the screen)

Thanks Rhona,

If your phone is locked, Kies will not be able to connect to it. It is a security feature. On your computer, go to Log into your Gmail or Google account. Do you see your contacts there?

Customer: replied 3 years ago.

No the only contacts on there that I can see are my e-mail contacts

Thanks Rhona.

If that is the case, you will haveto bring both your old phone and new phone to a cell phone repair shop. They will be able to use another screen to swap with your phone. Unlock the phone and transfer the contacts over.

You can bring either your computer or SD card.

Here are the steps to backup your Contacts to SD:

To export:

  1. Go to Contacts.
  2. Press Menu button and select Import/Export
  3. Select Export to SD card. Your contacts will copied to SD under a vcf file.

Import contacts from SD card. Insert the SD card to new phone and do the following:

  1. Go to Contacts.
  2. Press Menu button and select Import/Export
  3. Select Import from SD card.
  4. Select the VCF file and select Import.
  5. Your contacts will be imported from SD file.

At this point, this is the only way to get your contacts. They will charge you a fee for this process.
