Hi I have a problem with my Zanussi double oven zdf490x. To be honest I`ve been a muppet! The element had perished so I bought a new one connected it up but didn`t screw it completely to the back of the oven so when I turned on the power there was a flash and a bang! Since then the oven works fine but the fan and oven light remain on when oven switched off at the dial. Only way I can turn them off is by isolating the power on the main switch it is wired into. The element seems to be fine as it heats up but have I now made the element open circuited? Or do I need to change the switch selector? Any advise would be very welcome. Thanks Mike
You'll need to take it apart to check, but, you've likely fried the switch.

If you take the switch off, look at the leaf between connection P1 and 1
It's going to be welded closed.
If you're lucky, you'll be able to free it.
If not, you need to obtain and fit a new switch.

Copy and paste the following into a new browser window. It will take you to a supplier of the part.

Hope this helps

Ok thanks I`ll look at that at the weekend and let you know the outcome. Cheers

Hi- Right many thanks I did what you said I looked at the switch and part of it had welded together. I managed to unpick it and released the metal part and bingo the oven now switches off!! Only problem now is there is no heat coming from the element. No bangs or flashes just doesn`t heat up. Top oven all fine as before. Any ideas?

Many thanks Mike

When you try the oven, does the temperature light come on?

Customer: replied 4 years ago.

Thanks for the quick response, no the temperature light doesn`t come on. Maybe I need to look that I connected the thermostat correctly to the switch selector or do you think something else could be at fault? I`ll have a look at it tomorrow so when you respond I`ll come back to you later tomorrow. Regards

The thermostat light normally indicates the thermostat isn't working.

You need to check that out and see what you find.

Good luck with it.

Morning- I`ve just replaced the thermostat with a new one and no difference. No heat getting to the element and no thermo light coming on. Almost as if no power getting to the thermo. Any ideas what I can do next? Thanks Mike

Did you check the switch fully?

Follow the wiring from the thermostat back to the switch, check the leaf again.

I had assumed you had done this and the switch was ok.

All sorted oven back to full function. I hadn`t put all the leads in the correct position on the thermostat. So many thanks for all your advice, a great service

Thanks for letting me know.

Good luck with the appliance.
