Bosch maxx9 started making a high pitched loud whinny noise

This answer was rated:

Bosch maxx9 started making a high pitched loud whinny noise when filling and turning although not all of the time. Doesn't always make it when spinning but sounds like something turning is catching. Drum moves and spins fine. Emptied the detergent reservoir at the bottom and seemed to improve it for one wash but now making the same noise again and fairly constant during the cycle. Anything I can do or do I need an engineer ? Thanks

Hi, welcome to Just answer

KevinWhiteJA :

Please tell me its complete model number

KevinWhiteJA :

and how old is it ?

Customer: Bosch max 9 and 1.5 years old
KevinWhiteJA :

The model number starts with E nr

KevinWhiteJA :

and is located inside the door

Customer: Wap28360gb/14
KevinWhiteJA :

ok, was the machine moved recently ?

Customer: No
KevinWhiteJA :

ok, does it make sound while spinning or during normal wash cycle ?

Customer: normal wash and spinning although not whole time when spinning
Customer: was intermittent and is now much more frequent, noisy now most of the cycle, ran once tonight fine then second time when stopped washing had not been spun
KevinWhiteJA :

ok and what happens when you turn the drum manually when it is switched off

KevinWhiteJA :

I mean does it turn freely or you can feel resistance

Customer: spins fine with a little resistance have just taken back off machine to check nothing obvious with belt and it seems ok
KevinWhiteJA :

OK and the pulley as well seems fine

Customer: what does the pulley look like ?
KevinWhiteJA :

Bosch WAP28360GB/14 Pulley

KevinWhiteJA :

this is how it appears

Customer: yip seems secure
KevinWhiteJA :

ok then it is more likely the bearings that will need replacement

Customer: so that would be an engineer then ?
KevinWhiteJA :

the washer is just 1.5 years old so may be you can check with Bosch if they can do this repair under warranty

Customer: is that not unusual in a machine only 1.5 yrs old ?
KevinWhiteJA :

Yes, it really depends on the usage I said better to get in touch with them and tell them the age of the unit...usually bearings go bad after 5-6 years or so

KevinWhiteJA :

new bearing set will cost around £65

Customer: ok it does get pretty heavy use but I had a bosch before and never any probs, thanks
KevinWhiteJA :

You're welcome....Excellent feedback is appreciated if you are satisfied with my assistance....Have a Good Night

Customer: Thanks
