hi it seems that when defrosting and pulling away some ice

hi it seems that when defrosting and pulling away some ice a small hole has been created in the freezer skin which is letting out an odour which i assume is gas..can i repair this easily?

If it's gas that has escaped then it's not repairable at all as it would mean a foamed in pipe has burst.
You will also have no cooling in the appliance.

If it's not gas, but the smell from the foam, seal the hole with silicon sealant and a small piece of plastic (cut it from an ice cream container or similar).

Once the silicon sets this should be a permanent repair for it.
(You will need to turn the machine off, fully defrost it and then allow the silicon time to set before turning it on again).
