How old is the boiler controls?
Also what will the boiler do otherwise? Any sign of life other than displaying the error?

Boiler 7 years old, no remote. Initially tripped out on a1 fault. The fault flashes A then displays 25.
Boiler will not fire up. Will not reset.

Approx 18mths
Initially wanted plumber to service in between request issues arose, first A01 fault, did reset, but then grew to present situation

That error is one where the controls will need to be checked by a Technician (special equipment needed), its likely either a replaceable relay has finally failed or the control board is has failed. But this is usually a simple relay board you will need to fix this, also its not very expensive;-)
As a rule though you should have the unit serviced once a year to be safe.
I wish I had better news for you I really do.
