Hello My name is Ian ~ I am not on the site constantly so please be patient whilst waiting for responses to you queries ~ can I assume that the shirts come out of the washing machine without these marks? Secondly, how old is the dryer approximately?
Customer: replied 2 years ago.

Hi Ian

I think it is probably 4 years old and yes they come out of the washing machine in good order just when tumble dried got these black tips on one or other side of the collar. are they getting caught on something? nothing feels rough in there- I wondered if it maybe between the drum and door.

What is more likely is that you have a build up of fluff in the base of the cabinet that is picked up by the fan, it then passes through the heater where it is burnt black and then goes into the revolving drum where it sticks to the collars ~ remember that this is the only stiffened part of the shirt the remainder of the shirt is flexible enough to not let it stick. Also initially the clothes are damp which allows easier transfer when the moisture is removed you are left with 'baked' on black particles. If I were you I would remove the vent hose and see if you can get into the base with a vacuum cleaner and remove the years of built up dust/fluff, at the same time wash the filter and sponge out the tub with detergent and warm water. Then try it again and see if there is any improvement, as such there are no greasy bearings to worry about that would deposit black stuff on the clothes ~ Ian

I've also just been advised by my college Daniel (thanks mate) that this model is also prone to the front felt seal failing which also can cause this problem, so I would suggest that hubbie has a look at this whilst he is hovering inside too ~ Ian
