Hi it sounds like you have a manual mixer .
With a combi a thermostatic mixer is best as it regulates the temperature.
With a combi often the water pressure on the cold is higher than the hot as the hot has to go through the boiler and comes outwith less pressure than the cold .
By turning the hot down to a trickle you are increasing the temperature as it rus through the boiler slower therefore getting more heat from the burner.
The way to solve it is to get a thermostatic mixer, they can be bought for £50.
