My room thermostat gas central heating has been damaged

This answer was rated:

My room thermostat for my gas central heating has been damaged and needs replacing. It's not working, the heating is on but I can't turn it down or off with the thermostat. Can this cause my boiler to overheat/malfunction or is it ok to have it on while I organise a replacement thermostat? will it get hotter and hotter or is there a maximum temperature control other than the thermostat?
The boiler will run at the temperature set on the front of the boiler.
If it gets too hot then turn the boiler down until you can get the thermostat swapped
