Please advise re- danfoss refrigerator and freezer compressors

This answer was rated:

please advise re- danfoss refrigerator and freezer compressors in units bought before 1994, subject to recall 28/11/2007. Understand free spare part was available for refitting. Does this still apply? Have Kuppersbusch appliances installed circa 1991(?). Recent serious fire at flats due to freezer compressor of this time.
Hello My name is Ian ~ I am not on the site constantly so please be patient whilst waiting for responses to you queries. Firstly, and just for your clarification, Danfoss as such have no legal liability to you as they supplied the parts to Kupperbusch. Kupperbusch subsequently fitted them to their products and it is they that you should contact with your concerns. However, I have checked with the Electrical Safety Council and they have no record of any recall on Kupperbusch products - perhaps you could qualify this for me and I can take things further.

Please refer to compressors/. which gives info. for redress to Danfoss. The 'phone number given for Danfoss contact is inactive; Danfoss has not answered my own E-mail queries.-

I have contacted Danfoss technical on your behalf who are going to come back to me when they have looked at your submission. However, they are of the same initial view as me, ie you should go back to Kuppersbusch regarding this problem. My concern and that of Danfoss was that this press release was issued to manufacturers not the general public and the instructions given were on the understanding that a qualified technician would carry out the inspection and repair if necessary. I would suggest with respect that eight years after the initial November 2007 safety notice and likely twenty years after manufacture of the product that any relay/overload problem would be a result of fair wear and tear not overheating.
However, let us see what Danfoss have to say and I will come back to you later.

Please note that Danfoss has now answered my original E-mail - sent 31 October to GBSC Denham Reception as a "Request for Service and Support" - by sending me sets of starter replacement parts and fitting instructions, for both refrigerator and freezer units.
Ah good, it just goes to show that a call from the largest whitegoods trade association in the UK does in fact cause a stir. Pleased you got a result, Would you now kindly rate the service given to you so that I can close the job down. If you could kindly let me have the representative that contacted you I would be grateful - I can be contacted through -admin(at) where you substitute @ instead of (at) Many thanks - Ian
