Customer Question

hello, we have had an AEG SCT71900SO for about 4.5years, and in the last few days it has started beeping, making it look like the temperature of the freezer had dropped to -11 when we set it at -18. we don't have a thermometer to check the actual temperature, so we just press the crossed out bell button and it stops but then 6-7h later it does it again. we are going away for a few days tomorrow evening and would like to resolve this. can you help?

OK firstly since you are going away this to my mind is the easiest course of action. Shift you frozen stuff to a neighbour, family or friend and then with the doors open let the appliance fully defrost which will take at least 48 hours (towels across the doorway and sides. Then when you come back restart it and see if that has resolved the problem. Even frost free appliances eventually freeze up and the restricted air flow causes the above problem. Its a damn sight easier to strip an applance down when there is no danger of cracking the plastic when its frozen and brittle. Come back to me when you come back from holiday.

thank you for your answer, the problem is we are renting our flat out on Airbnb and need the appliance to function. our idea was to write a note to the guests and then do what you suggest on our return.

OK gotcha First thing to check is do you have the fan running inside the freezer?
