My freezer (ff40x) has been gathering ice at the bottom,

Hi. My freezer (ff40x) has been gathering ice at the bottom, quite a bit over a week or so. I am planning to defrost it tomorrow but now the 2 ***** *****ghts have started flashing. Does this mean the problem may be more than just needing to defrost? It was open for a while whilst I was starting to clear it out but that was an hour and a half ago.

Hello Helen, my name is George,

The FF40X is a Frost Free appliance.. The gathering of ice in the freezer could indicate a problem itself.. It could indicate any of the following:

  1. Failure of the door seal
  2. Failure of the internal fan
  3. Failure of the defrost heater
  4. Low on refrigerant

Pull out the drawers in the freezer and check to see if there is ice/frost on the rear wall of the freezer... Also check to see/hear/feel if the fan is rotating.

Let me know what you find

Just to clarify; is yours a Freezer or a Fridge Freezer?
