We have an Indesit VIA 640 C Induction Hob that we just installed. It is wired into the same socket as the cooker - as was the previous electric stove and oven combo. The fan in the hob turns on for approximately 2 seconds when the power is turned on at the wall, then goes still and the appliance will not turn on. We replaced the Oven at the same time. Both have new wiring from appliance to socket. We have had the Hob for a year sitting waiting to be installed as we did renovations. It has been stored inside and away from an hazards and there is nothing visable to indicate any damage.

With things like this its always worth going back to basics.

When the induction hob was purchased was this ever tested, or is this the first time its been taken out of the box, as it could suggest it was 'dead on arrival' and may have a lose connection inside?

The fact the fan has started (all be it briefly) confirms power is getting to the appliance, are you confident the polarity is correct \ the unit has been wired as per installation instructions, including the earthing requirements?

The next thing to consider are there any lights\controls illuminated when you turn on the appliance at the wall and the fan starts running, and after the fan stops are there any lights showing?

Once I hear back from you I can better assist you as to what your options are to faulty find, and detect the fault\arrange a repair.

unfortunately this was first time out the box. Unit has been wired correctly-the cable and wiring used came with it and it is connected as per GB requirements.
There are no lights that come on the hob when we turn the power on, just the fan, and then no lights after. The instructions state that when connected to the power it should beep. This did not happen.

This sounds like a hardware component failure, I would suggest you arrange for someone to come and look at this under the warranty. though you may have purchased it a year ago, I would just advise them of the install date, they are used to this as builders buy appliances a year before home owners move in.
