It may be low on freon, that would cause this, but...if that is the case there is a tiny leak so that needs to be pressure checked with a dye they would put into the system.
Or if the compressor isn't running at all, it could be just a start relay on the compressor, easy change, or it could be just the thermostat?
I 'll help you check all this if you are handy and have a multimeter?
