Hi
JA: Hello. How can I help?
Customer: we have a smegA2-81_SS opera range .
JA: Is your range gas or electric? How old is it?
Customer: there was a bang behind the small oven selector knob and keeps tripping the fuse board
JA: How long has this been going on with your range? What have you tried so far?
Customer: this happened after I cleaned the gas hob on Tuesday. I have taken the front off and accessed the rear of the selector switch and there is arking between blue and black wire
JA: Anything else we should know to help you best?
Customer: i think some water had dripped from wok burner above

I’ve detatched the blue wire from selector and we ar3 able to use main oven
The problem is the cooling fan stays on
Customer: replied 15 days ago.
I also isolated the cooker for a day in case there was still moisture in selector switch and it is still arking

It’s dual fuel

Hi,

Welcome to Justanswer … my name is Kevin and I will help you today!

The band that you heard is from the thermostat that has failed and will need replacement.

It trips as its faulty, due to this faulty thermostat control thinks the appliance is heating hence, the fan keeps on running continuously.

Unfortunately, you will have to replace the part to solve this issue.

Is this the main oven thermostat?

Yes

Customer: replied 15 days ago.
So this would cause the bang behind the small oven function knob

After reading your Question the fan seems to be working, timer is fine and yes that will cause the bang.

What else do you think will cause this ?

Customer: replied 15 days ago.
How is the function selector on small oven shorting by failed main oven thermostat..sorry I don't know much about these things..just trying to get my head round the problem and my wife going crazy at the thought of no oven at the mo .

Could moisture ingress to the function selector and arking have caused the the thermostat to fail

Sorry, went away for few minutes.

I tried to find model specific schematic for you however, unable to find for this model.

Yes moisture can cause thermostat to fail.

The thermostat is located and connected with this switch hence, it is causing the issue.

Ok thanks mate
So I just need to replace main oven thermostat
Customer: replied 15 days ago.
Is this doable from inside the oven?

You will have to unplug it and pull it out.

Then remove the controls, then the rear panel to access the thermostat and then replace it.

Sorry Kevin to bother again.
I've just turned main oven on and the thermostat appears to be working ..it reach 150degs and red light clicked off ..checked with meter usage to confirm .
As I said earlier I've taken the blue wire out of function switch which stopped it arking( banging) and has enabled me to use oven ..

OK, then test the thermostat located near the fan motor.
