My centre ring on a seimens 5 ring hob has stopped igniting

my centre ring on a seimens 5 ring hob has stopped igniting and when lit by a match it will not stay on when you release the control button.
JA: What's the brand and model of your hob? How old is it?
Customer: its a seimens 5 ring, a couple of years old. cant get to the serial number.
JA: How long has this been going on with your hob? What have you tried so far?
Customer: the last month since i cleaned it up after the wife spilt the fat/juice from some steak over it.
