The drum in my washing machine rotates freely manually but there is a whirring noise when the machine is switched on and asked to spin and no movement of the drum. The model is a Classic 6 1200 Express
JA: Is your washer top or front loading? How old is it?
Customer: Front loading over 10 years old
JA: How long has this been going on with your washer? What have you tried so far?
Customer: only happened this morning - suspect the machine tripped a power supply. So far I have confirmed that the draining pipe is not kinked and cleaned the filter
JA: Anything else we should know to help you best?
Customer: am conscious that there have been some slightly unusual noises, like a high speed whistling coming from the machine over the last week or so but it has continued to function until today

Thank you for the model number.

It was manufactured in November 2009 so around 12 years old.

If you don’t mind, please allow me a few minutes to check its schematics and then type the answer.

I am afraid this indicates motor fault.

You will have to unplug the appliance and remove the top off the appliance.

Then check if belt is intact.

If belt is fine then remove the back off the appliance and locate the motor towards bottom right.

Remove the brushes and then you can replace them.

The brushes are available here for around £33 + repair charges (£99 if done by Bosch).
