I am trying to find out why freezer in Kenwood American

Customer Question

Hello, I am trying to find out why freezer in Kenwood American fridge
JA: What's the brand and model of your freezer? How old is it?
Customer: KSBS4DX17, it is three years old
JA: What have you tried so far with your freezer?
Customer: We tried to leave it unplugged for couple of hours, but the freezer is still not cold enough. Also I removed back panel inside and noticed a bit of ice on tubes, removed it. Besides this, I removed panel at the back of the fridge, compressor is very hot, surrounding front area of the freezer is warm.
JA: Anything else we should know to help you best?
Customer: Probably that’s it.

Good afternoon,

You have reached, an independent paid question and answer platform that matches experts in various skills to customers.

My name is ***** ***** I will assist you with your appliance today.

I am sorry to hear you are having trouble with your appliance.

I understand how frustrating that can be.

This indicates temperature issue and/or an air flow problem due to heavy ice build-up inside the rear wall of the appliance.

Please try this to solve the issue:

Leave it unplugged and empty with door open for around 12-24 hours.

Then plug it back (expect some water on the floor) and wait for another 4-8 hours so it gets back to optimum temperature.

The problem should be resolved.

However, if the issue appears again then the problem is with defrost operation.

You will have to test/replace the temperature sensor and/or defrost heater element to resolve the issue.

Please do not hesitate to ask any follow up questions.

I hope you enjoyed your experience with today.

Have a wonderful day.

Thank you.

Hi again. We left the fridge off power for around 18 hours and plugged it back in last night. Now it is working even worse, fridge is not cold at all, freezer is cold about as much as normally fridge should be. Any more ideas please?

I understand, if the fan is working then I am afraid the thermostat and/or defrost element will need replacement.

Is it difficult to do? I am plumber, so I could try. How to figure out what needs replacing please?
Expert:  KevinWhiteJA replied 5 days ago.

If you have a multi-meter test it before you replace it.

It is located behind the rear wall of your appliance.
