I have an Audi A3 tdi 2006 reg FX06wpz engine code a3 tdi

Customer Question

I have an Audi A3 tdi 2006 reg FX06wpz engine code a3 tdi 1.9 R4 total mileage 12,000 only exceeded 4000 rpm during MOT testing, full Audi service history. What is best advice on timing belt replacement? does belt need replacing due to rubber deterioration? with belt only? with full kit? or should it wait until mileage reaches 25,000?
Any advice welcome. H B Sharman C.Eng.

Hopefully i can help..

The timing belt should never be replaced on its own - it has to inc:- the water pump/tensioner,guide however those should actually come all as a kit form anyway bar the water pump which will be seperate but shouldnt be left out during replacement..The recommended mileage or replacment interval is upto or nearing 75,000 or every 5 years which ever comes first according to the information i have..Belts do deteriorate with the passing of time or the teeth of the belt experiance stress cracks in which very often as time goes on is the cause for most breakages.its is also one of things thats maybe asked by a tester before carrying out an diesel emission test due to nature of the test which involves revving the engine...I do hope this helps
