I have a Audi A4 Avant 2002,the cam belt,tensioner & water

I have a Audi A4 Avant 2002,the cam belt,tensioner & water pump.was replaced last June.Travelling back from holiday the engine cut out with no warning at all,the garage now have the car & say the bolt holding the tensioner has sheered,damage to engine not yet known.As I have only covered 7000 miles since the work was done is this possibly due to the retaining bolt being over tightend

Hi Roger,

At 7000 miles, it is a warranty issue.

I would ask for photos of the failed parts, and don't give them too long to do this.

More than likely the cylinder head needs to come off for bent valves.

Yes, any cam belt tensioner bolt should be torqued to a specification.

Unfortunately, some out there tend to do up bolts too tight, in fear of things coming undone.

I think your dealer is trying to look at a bolt fracture as a parts failure, and not a workmanship issue.
