BMW 330d .. oil pressure light flickered on whilst driving,

Customer Question

BMW 330d .. oil pressure light flickered on whilst driving, light was orange in colour not red, lasted a couple of seconds. Pulled up on the side of the road, checked the oil which was full, restarted the vehicle and continued driving as light had gone off and stayed off for the remainder of the trip home... could this be signs of engine problems, oil pump or that the vehicle needs a service... last oild change done almost 10 000 miles ago.

Hopefully I can help..

The Orange warning is to do with oil level - so its vital you do check that at least after the engine has rested for about 5mins to allow the oil to drain back into the sump and then see what the level is like..and top up if required but never overfill - another likely cause which is very common on these is the Oil level sensor.these are not unknown for causing issues..The oil level sensor is located on the sump itself, you'll see a 3 pin plug going to it so maybe check that is fully secure etc and check the pins on the sensor and the removal of that sensor and replacement does require the oil to be drained - the sensor replaced and new oil added aswell as of course a new oil filter and then see how that goes..but as above check the oil first and then maybe try a new sensor..I do hope this helps..If you need to ask anything else or include any further information before your rate - then just continue
