When does the vibaration occur, while driving, while stopped at a light, some other time?
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

Cant feel it at 30ish on a decent flat surface but when idling along (not accelerating) at higher speeds you start to feel it and its constant at 70 on a motorway.

I will provide an honest answer. I trust this will be appreciated. Please remember that a low rating PUNISHES me for being honest and that I receive nothing for my time until a positive rating is clicked.
The most common cause of a vibration is wheel balance so you should start there, and also have the alignment checked.
Other possible causes would be a sticking brake caliper, drive shaft issue, or suspension wear so all would also need to be checked.
As for the odor, if it. Is raw fuel you smell, there is a leak at the engine, tank or in between. If it is exhaust, then you have an exhaust leak. Both types of leaks can normally be sorted by visual inspection or smoke test. There is nothing common at all for either of these types of leaks so it has to be validated hands on.
Please let me know if you have further questions. Please do not forget to click a positive rating as this is the only way I receive credit for my answer, thank you. Best wishes with your vehicle.

Steve I was looking for more than this. To start with if you are a BMW expert you should be able to pass comment on whether these are common faults. Looking at internet threads I get the impression the vibrating certainly is.

No disrespect but any mechanic could have given me your answer foc!!

There is no single cause for what you are experiencing and I have outlined the most likely on your model based on what does occur. As I am not hands on and cannot experience the issues myself, this is the best I can do.
As the question has been answered, please kindly click on a rating of ok or higher to. Ensure I receive proper credit for my time ans answer.
