Customer Question

Hi all
I have a BMW series 320Ci (year 2003).
The car has a steptronic gearbox.
Performance is poor, there was a lag when I put my foot down and now I am struggling to get to 30MPH. On idle, the car seems fine. Just no power when I accelerate.
When I decelerate, the rev counter goes up...or sometimes sticks higher than it should be, and, the MPG vacuum gauge goes up sometimes to the 16 mark which is maximum. It should never do this on deceleration!
I was hoping it might be a simple fix like the airfilter need changing or cleaning.
Anyone got any ideas please?
Thanks all.
Best wishes

When you sstep on the pedal, the revs go up, but the power is not transferred to the road?

Hi Steve

Thanks for coming back so quick.

Yep...revs go up, but there is no power to the wheels.

I will provide an honest answer. I trust this will be appreciated. Please remember that a low rating PUNISHES me for being honest and that I receive nothing for my time until a positive rating is clicked.
Unfortunately that points to an internal gearbox failure. If the engine is revving, it is working, the power is not be transferred through the transmission to the wheels.
This is unlikely to be an easy / quick fix. You will need to have the fluid level and condition checked, and a proper transmission diagnostic carried out at this time.
Please let me know if you have further questions. Please do not forget to click a positive rating as this is the only way I receive credit for my answer, thank you. Best wishes with your vehicle.
