BMW Repair Questions? Ask a Mechanic for Answers ASAP
Yes, ive been told that the computer will have to go through a diagosostic scan and that there will be faults that will have to be cleared before it can start, will I encounter any problems when starting, remember the car was without power for 3 months and ive bought a new battery to be replace. Thanks in advance
I will provide an honest answer. I trust this will be appreciated. Please remember that a low rating PUNISHES me for being honest and that I receive nothing for my time until a positive rating is clicked.
when the battery is changed the car's computer needs to be updated by a main dealer or garage with dealer equipment to recognize the new battery so that it is properly charged and monitored
beyond this, there is no defined things that need to be done, however, you can run into faults such as the steering angle sensor or other systems needing to be recalibrated, as well as a potential immobilizer issue whereby it will need to be reset with a main dealer tool to enable start. There is no way to 100% predict this with certainty, you have to change the battery and see what you get.
the steering angle sensor can sometimes be reset by turnig the wheels from lock to lock a few times while stationary, should you get this fault.
Please let me know if you have further questions. Please do not forget to click a positive rating as this is the only way I receive credit for my answer, thank you. Best wishes with your vehicle.
Thanks for your time, I will change the battery and see what happens, will let you know the outcome, thanks again.
