I have a BMW E46 318i. One of the thermostat housing studs

Hi I have a BMW E46 318i. One of the thermostat housing studs has broken leaving about 5mm protruding from the head, have you any suggestions as to how to remove it please.

hello I'd say the thing to use is the easi-out insert type where you drill a smaller hole into the stud and then try screwing one of these tools into it which have a LH / reverse threadhowever before doing this I'd say to use one of the freeze sprays that also contain penertrating oil like this and failing that you will have to drill it out carefully and then re-tap the thread , the issue with this is its all too easy to damage the thread but in which case you can tap it oversize and fit a thread insert like a 'helicoil'
