I have a Suzuki Grand Vitara Diesel Automatic 1999 (S reg) and my problem that the vehicle does not want to go past second gear (2 and a half revolutions), the engine is sound, has just been services, but when you drive forward there is 'oomph' and does not to go any faster.

Can you help ?
Hi .

Automatic transmission .?

Customer: replied 5 years ago.

Yes it is automatic transmission

Customer: replied 5 years ago.

I should have said that there is NO 'oomph' after it reaches 2nd gear

Will it still change up all the gears .

Customer: replied 5 years ago.

When it happened it would not go up past 2nd gear or over 2 1/2 thousand revs

Hi John do the following .

Put into revers and see how the car reacts ,
want to know if you have the same problem or if you can move fast and get the engine revs above 2500rpm.
Can yo get over 2500rpm in "N "

Customer: replied 5 years ago.

Hi Greg,

Same problem going forward and in reverse - when in Neutral can only get engine revving to 2000 revs and there is a lot of black reek (smoke) coming out of exhaust

Hi .

John thats important news Black smoke .

Ok you are running way to rich , to much fuel being supplied or to little air ,
So first move is to remove the airfilter, and see if the power gets back to normal .

Do you have a intercooler fitted and a turbo .

Customer: replied 5 years ago.

Have taken the air filter out but still the engine is not going above 2,000revs -

I did this in 'park'.

Yes, I have an intercooler and turbo fitted.

Ok remove the hose from the intercooler to the inlet manifold, then check for power return .

Customer: replied 5 years ago.

The mechanic we had out tried that and it made no difference

Hi John .

This is pointing towards bad injectors or a injection pump malfunction .

First check the timing belt is correctly aligned .

Then remove injectors and do a pressure test if under the specs rebuild / repair .

if good have the injection pump tested .

This is all it can be if the timing belt and the rest isd good as your mechanic says it only leaves injectors or injection pump .

Kind regards Greg.
