i have a 2001 fiat ducato i have just replaced the ignition and now a key symbol with code comes up on dash and van wont start how do i fix this.i got a new ignition and keys from ebay

this is an immobilser issue
inside the key is a small transponder chip that transmits a code to the security unit inside the car - unless the system see this this chip it won't start the car

you need to open up the old key and move it over to the new one

you can test this by holding the old key close to the steering column / ignition lock whilst trying to start it
Customer: replied 4 years ago.

how do you open the key its a solid piece of plastic and holding the old key next to the ignition doesnt do anything

Hello Andrew

in that case the new key will need coding to the ECU as the chip in the new key will be in conflict with the chiip in the old key

Sorry to say that this isn't a DIY job and will need plugging into a dealer level diagnostic tool perform the coding
