My problem is with our BMW Mini Cooper auto on a 53 plate, which has a tickover that is around the 1300-1400 rpm when cold. this makes gear selection almost impossible without potentially breaking the box! Once warmed up, selecting gear is silky smooth with the tickover around 850-900. Has anyone got any tips/idea where I should start looking, please?

Are there any warning lights coming on?
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

Hello Mike, thanks for replying. There no warning lights on at all. When the gearbox specialist reset the box they gave me a printout which read - '8857 Gas Pedal Position/Brake Plausibility Error', whatever that means?

Does this help you at all? Regards, Allan.

Ok the issue that you are having and the print out that you got both point to a failing throttle position sensor which is a common failure on this vehicle and causes this problem. The sensor will need to be ohm tested and likely replaced.
