Hi I have a 2001 ford focus 1.8 zetec. When I slow down towards a junction or on a bend the revs drop to zero and the car cuts out, intermittently also the engine management light comes on. When I turn the car off properly and back on it, it works ok. On 2 occasions the speedometer didn't work. I've had the car plugged in to check for any codes and it's not showing any codes. The idle speed tends to be about 750 rpm when in neutral and doesn't go much over 2000rpm when I'm driving at speed. It feels like there isnt enough power in the engine
Hi there ,good afternoon to you
Ok your fault lies with the vehicles speed sensor (common on the 1.8mk1 focus matching your concern
The speed sensor is located in the gearbox and can be a tricky and tight job to do if you haven't done one begore as there is a small roll pin that must be replaced holding the sensor in place
This is normally really tight and is awkward to get at
I would advise getting a garage to do it as you really need this on a ramp to successfully do the job
If you need anymore help or advice on this issue please let me know
If you are completley satisfied with my answer /advice

Hi thank you for the reply. I've taken the car to the garage and checked it over. The idle speed control valve was faulty and that's what was causing the car to intermittently stall etc. Apparently this is a common problem with the ford focus.

thank you for the help

Hi there ,no worries
