i have a 1969 straight 6 mustang and gave it to a mechanic because it was running rough he gave it back but it was worse and as i drove it home it was running terrible with no kick down or power and then it backfired obout 4 times and then blew up the centre box on the exhaust and i mean blew up

I'd 1st check that the ignition timing and ignition lead order onto the distributor is set correctly

as this sounds like its very retarded to me

if this is OK then I'd check that the float bowl in the carb is at least 2/3rds full of fuel
and check that the air filter is clean
