I have a l200 truck, the temp gauge stays at normal temp mark, but the expansion tank is filling up to top .what do you think the problem is

When the expansion tank is filling up like this, this is normally a indication that there is exhaust gases entering the coolant system.
How this happens is there is a breech in the head or head gasket.
There needs to be a block test performed on the vehicle and this can be performed at most any shop.
